Online access to Lloyd’s Register Certification

We are pleased to let you know that as part of an ongoing client service improvement programme we have developed an online certificate retrieval system. The online system will enable you to access your certificates in digital form within 4 days of the final inspection.

The certificates will be digitally signed and hosted on a secure extranet on our website which will be available to download 24 hours a day. When a new certificate is uploaded to your extranet account an email will automatically be sent to you to inform you that the certificate is available for download.

This service is free and will allow you to provide certification evidence to your clients’ with minimum delay, following the final inspection. This form of access to your certificates ensures not only timely access but also supports a paperless philosophy.

The certificates will be available to you for downloading for 30 days after which the certificates will be deleted from your account; however the digital certificates can still be made available to you by contacting our Coventry office.

The facility will be fully operational from 1st february 2012 and your log in details will be communicated to you through a personal telephone call from our customer services team over the next month. Should you wish to clarify any aspect, then please email us at ukenergy@lr.org or call +44 (0)2476 518630.

Whilst this initiative serves to both improve our client service provision and our environmental credentials, we recognise that some clients will wish to opt out of the proposed system. Should you wish to opt out we will be pleased to extend the current hard copy distribution for a further 12 months. Please let us know by emailing us at ukenergy@lr.org.

PED – EC Type Examinations (Module B) 10 year renewal

The EU Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC became mandatory in Europe on 29 May 2002. Nearly 10 years on and PED is business as usual.

Many manufacturers use an EC Type Examination (Module B) to support their PED compliance and these documents have a 10 year validity. So for those manufacturers who started their PED journey in 2001/2002 these documents are about to expire.

The PED notified bodies will all have to address this requirement, but as the Declaration of Conformity is the manufacturer’s responsibility, it is the manufacturer’s choice as to how to progress the renewal process. Please note that it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure that all PED certification is up-to-date and that it is illegal to CE mark pressure equipment using an invalid EC Type Examination approval.

Lloyd’s Register is working with its clients, and in many cases with clients of former notified bodies, to update technical files and issue new EC Type examination certificates. We would be delighted to assist you with the update of your EC Type Examination certification and should you require this service provision then please contact Jill Bagley on tel. +44 (0)2476 518614, email jill.bagley@lr.org or Kate Clarke tel. +44 (0)2476 518632, email kate.clarke@lr.org who will advise you of the process for re-approval.

We look forward to hearing from you.

National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) Developments

Network connections - new contestable scopes of work

We are pleased to advise our utilities clients that connection to the asset owners’ existing main and associated operational work will become contestable. This is subject to the outcome of trials and amendment of DNO charging statements. New scopes were introduced into the ‘National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) Requirements Document’ early in 2011 as follows:

Network connections – connection activity (jointing activities)

  • LV mains and single / 3 phase services
  • LV pole, link box and LV board / pillar terminations
  • LV single phase un-metered services
  • HV cable mains
  • HV pole and switchgear terminations

Note – the LV scopes are not split live & dead

Network connections – operational activity

  • LV - including the identification, isolation and proving of LV cables for dead jointing and the use of test equipment on the adopting utility’s network to identify LV cables for live jointing.
  • HV - including the releasing of HV cables for work under central control or local / field control.

If Utility Connection Providers (UCPs) would like to partake in the DNO trial, they need to request a scope extension against one of the new NERS scopes depending on what work they intend to undertake. The scope extension assessments include UCP conformance with DNO interface arrangements, UCP procedural changes and new UCP competency requirements. For more information on applying for new NERS scopes, please see the ‘NERS Guidance on New Scopes‘ document which is available on our website or by clicking here.

Self-determination of point-of-connection

A new ECSG sub-group was established late in 2011 to review how the UCPs could determine the point-of-connection (POC). A trial is currently underway in one of the DNO areas and, subject to a positive outcome this will be developed as a contestable scope of work. It will be difficult to split this scope by voltage level although there is likely to be demand for an LV only scope that would have limitations. The proposals from the sub-group will be developed into firm proposals for amendments to the ‘NERS Requirements Document’ which will be introduced following consultation at the NERS Forum and agreement at the NERS Approval Panel (NERSAP).

For more information on NERS, please email us at ukenergy@lr.org.
